FAQ

Why are all sites rated G?
New visitors will only see G-rated sites. You can change this by selecting another rating in the menu, under "change rating". This setting will be remembered next time you visit Furweb (unless your browser does not accept cookies).
What's the line between G/PG/NC-17?
The basic questions you should ask yourself are, "Would I show this to my 12 year old son / daughter / brother / sister?" (for G / PG) and "Would I show this to my 18 year old son / daughter / brother / sister?" (for PG / NC-17). More specifically, though, here's the run-down of what throws the flag:
Almost anything "au naturale" will be considered PG if "gender figures" are drawn and NC-17 if they are explicit. For example, Skippy and Aunt Slappy (of Animanics fame) are not considered adult, even though they are naked, because nothing "sexual" is being drawn. However, Minerva Mink naked would be considered PG, because of her bust, waist, etc.
Another couple of seemingly innocent types of pics are money shots (shot looking up at a characters crotch or down a character's chest). These pics pose their subjects in such a way as to give a nice little peep show. Top-down angles, down-up angles, and articles of clothing conveniently flapping in the breeze to reveal certain things, are just a few of things that describe these types of pics. And depending on the level of gratuity, garner a PG or NC-17 rating.
Violence is another gotcha, and we're not talking about mere puches being thrown or a little blood being spilled. If you want to draw a character on standing on top of a pile of fresh kills he or she scored with a machete, and with the blood of his or her victims forming a nice waterfall effect down the pile, prepare to don the NC-17 tag.
Last, but not least, is sort of a catch-all. If there is anything you frequently draw about that the general public deems "depraved", your site will be labeled as PG or NC-17, depending on what your site is about and how far you go. (Please read the guidelines for more info.)
My site covers two categories in The Furry Web Directory extremely well. Are you sure I can only get listed once?
If you have significant content in multiple categories, you can submit more than one of your pages for indexing, one for each category. The significance of each section will be determined by the administrator of The Furry Web Directory. While nothing is written in stone, it will help if the pages look like they are their own separate sites. It is preferred that The Furry Web Directory NOT have the same URL listed in multiple categories. Rather, it is preferred that the URLs to each section be provided.
Please ask ahead of time. Please do not submit multiple sites expecting to be listed in multiple categories.
What's up with the submission process warning me that my site might be a duplicate? The matching entries looks nothing like mine!
Keep in mind that these are possible matches and does not necessarily mean immediate rejection! This is simply an algorithm that is designed to subdue human error. With that said...
The Furry Web Directory detects possible matches based on how closely a submitted site matches any of our existing entries based on the URL. The reason for this is multi-faceted. We don't want people getting one site listed multiple times because they write, draw, and have made a fursuit, or run a furry index and MUCK. We don't want people who are trying to help us by submitting other people's web sites to do so in their own name. We don't want people submitting their web site when they should be submitting a change. And we don't want the algorithm to be fooled by a simple letter-case switch or typo. All of this leads us to use an engine that uses "close matching" as opposed to "exact matching."
Why did you change the site owner and/or contact information?
First of all, The Furry Web Directory will only ever use the web site's owner's information. The Furry Web Directory defines 'owner' as the person who has the ultimate legal responsibility for the web site. If you are the site's administrator, that does not necessarily count as owner. The Furry Web Directory defines a site's administrator as the person who has been hired or has volunteered to take responsibility for mainitaining a web site's content. It is quite possible to be both, but just because you administer the site, it does not mean you are the owner. Likewise, The Furry Web Directory realizes that a site might be run by a group of people with a common goal of providing a service. In cases where sites can be considered to be owned by a group, even if it has not been put through all the legal paperwork to declare it so, the current administrator's contact information will be used. Remember, The Furry Web Directory is about getting in touch with other furs of similar interest, not about who has the most web sites.
The Furry Web Directory will only explicity use submitted contact information if that information can be found at the submitted web site or in a WHOIS lookup for individually-owned domain names, and only if the owner explicity gives us consent to do so. If none of the contact information gathered from the submitted web site and WHOIS lookup matches the contact information that was submitted, the following steps will be taken:
The Real Name and Screen Name for the owner of the web site will be changed to that which appears on the web site or WHOIS lookup for individually-owned domain names.
If the email address submitted differs from the email address listed on the submitted site, we will use the email address on the web site to confirm the different email address supplied to us during submission. If there is no email address but a contact form, we will use that contact form to confirm the email address we received. If no contact information is given on the web site, we will try to use the email address listed in a WHOIS lookup for individually-owned domain names.
If no contact can be made, the changes will remain and The Furry Web Directory will immediately assume it has no permission to display the site owner's Real Name or E-mail Address.
